Seven years ago Sue and I chartered a Feeling 28 for two weeks in Greece.

One event, two days out, is something I've kept to myself - but I do want to apologise to the owner / charterer of a Sunsail yacht who berthed alongside us for one night in a small harbour.

We'd had two upset tummies for 48 hours, and had no idea the holding tank on a Feeling 28 was so small. The loo had taken a bit of a bashing earlier in the day - and early the next morning I found I needed to use it yet again.

After use when pumping copiously as I do, I could not help but notice an awful smell from outside. Popping on deck, I was horrified to see our holding tank vent postioned just under our gunnel, was discharging a lot of nasty stuff over the side.

Its obviously designed to work also as an overflow pipe.

But what was terrible, was that our gunnel overhung the Sunsails deck - and this bad stuff was pouring along his side deck and tricking off his transom!

It was really early, so I was able to quietly hoist a couple of buckets of water and oh so gently slosh down his deck so as to remove as much as I could. But with the earlry morning hot sun - it really needed a brush - and I was not brave enough to try and use one.

So we sloped off 10 minutes later, and often wonder what the boats occupants thought may have happened when they awoke.

If you were on that boat - my humble apologies. You were not bombed by the largest seagull ever in Greece - t'was me.
