Funny how latitude affects perspective. November to March is our favorite months in the Philippines

Winter in Wisconsin, lots of fun. They may need to get a longer auger to bore through the ice at my dock. Last year April 15, literally they were still ice fishing in my slip (web cam). We shoot for April 1...on a happier note last weekend was Strictly Sail in Chicago, it provided a little mental relief....I did not know we needed bamboo pillows. I was corrected by my wife.

Re: Anyone Else Tired of Winter?

It warmed up yesterday, so I took off my jacket and didn't need gloves or a hat... Just a sweater to go out for a couple of hours. Drove by the bank building and looked up at the clock and thermometer.... 24 degrees F. To those of you who speak Celcius, that's still 2-3 degrees below zero. It's funny how we can get used to the cold, and temps below zero can feel like a heatwave.

Re: Anyone Else Tired of Winter?

I seriously don't understand why I still live in New England. Somewhere down south where you can sail either all year or at least the majority of the year would be preferable. Right now my sailing season is May to October. That's just not right. Now all I have to do is convince the wife to move, get the mother in law to not freak out if we move, find new jobs, find a house, become accustomed to the southern ways, and God knows what else. But at least I could throw away the snow blower and maybe get to go for a Christmas Day sail.

Me, I'm doing fine up here in the snowy mountains . . . just fine. What's the trouble?

Re: Anyone Else Tired of Winter?

Damm yes I'm tired of it but we're only half way through it yet. Funny I use to love winter when I was younger. I need to get somewhere warm, my wife just got back from 12 days in Barbados. All I got was to go to the Toronto boat show. Well maybe in Feb I'll go somewhere. Away counting down to lift in in May.

Re: Anyone Else Tired of Winter?

I live in Duluth, MN and we know cold. "Luckily" Lake Superior actually keeps our temps warmer than inland. The northern part of MN has seen air temps in the -45 range. Ish. I have been doing warm weather vacation porn on the 'net for weeks. Oh well.

My wife has a project running with her work associates who live all over the country. She asks them to complete the sentence "You know it's cold when...." It's interesting hear other's impressions.

Stay warm.

Re: Anyone Else Tired of Winter?

Geez, I'm in South Georgia and hate cold, I equate cold to pain, one of the biggest reason I want to cruise is to escape the winter and cold.
I do not think man was meant to live in conditions where water becomes solid, just ain't natural

Re: Anyone Else Tired of Winter?

Flew in from Los Cabos to Fort McMurray four days ago. +28 to -28 C. Felt really cold. Woke up the next morning; -36.
At least it's warmer than last month.
Why do I live here again? Anyone? Anyone? Bueler? Anyone?

Fort Mac = bigger boat

(haven't been to Fort Mac myself, but some of the migrant east-coasters liken it to a kitty-litter box: you jump in, you do your business, you jump out)

Polar vortex #2 has finally released its grip on Toronto.

But, yeah... I don't ski anymore, so I really don't have much use for winter, it seems.
