Just checked her track and hope she doesn't pinch the point too closely... it can get really rough as you make the turn. I'm sure she knows she will hit it on the nose as she rounds for a few miles with the weather coming around off the sea of Cortez... she is a big girl, though, and should be fine. The trip across to Maz will be a fun broad reach the whole way... Capt Phil

Last I heard it was Cabo, and she will then solo on after restin and dropping off crew.

Last I heard Salty was that Juan had decided to go all the way to Maz with her. This was the night before they left I believe. Course the couple of days down in Cedros may have changed it back.

I know Zee would rather push on and not stop at all if she can.

No doubt it depends on the coast, among other things. Along the coast of my stretch of the pacific anything under 5 miles off during the day is risky in my opinion, which is not a hugely experienced one, but has much common knowledge backing it up.

We don't have a fast drop off so the tidal and rip tide effect leaches out off the coast further than other areas.

You would never go wrong going out further rather than closer...

Never say never. Sometimes, the shore represents safety, even if you have to do a crash-landing. Also, help is further away when you're further offshore, and less willing to take the time and assume the risks to drop by for a visit.

I have a hard time making 6 knots when I don't a problem to slow me down. If I'm 60 miles offshore, I'm at least 10 hours away from help or trouble, a whole day or night to ponder my fate.

Then again, we don't have rocky shores here in NC.

Different strokes for different folks. While I don't suggest a deathwish, stressing about all the things that can happen is counter-production to anyenjoyment.
Why go somewhere where you expect trouble requireing help?

Where Zee is right now there is no help, no matter how close to shore she is.

As I said, it depends on the coast, but my bet for the pacific coast, pretty much from top to bottom is further off is better... we are rocky most of the way down! Crash landing is prolly more of a crash than ANYONE wants!
