I'm with you John A... have delivered countless boats up and down the Baja, there are few decent, secure anchorages. Between Mag Bay and Turtle Bay none that I would feel comfortable in even with a wide awake anchor watch. Even San Quintin can be iffy between Turtle and Ensenada. Top of Cedros is ok in a pinch but rolly with crappy holding so I've avoided it... rather push on headed north for about 2-3 hours to get out of the 'washing machine' then get into a regular interval out of the north northwest. Headed south lots of space between me and the lee shore... Punta Abrejos can invite steep seas and a wrap around close in so I've always left it away off my beam... Capt Phil

You guys are making this milk run sound as if it's one of the most treacherous coastal passages in all of sailing. I'll grant that it can be tough bashing it northbound, but running south is a fairly benign series of overnight hops with generally favorable winds and currents, and with the water warming the entire way down.

The vast majority of folk who run from San Diego to Los Cabos find it to be quite a relaxing trip.

I think it has more to do with the boat and its condition that has many following this thread and waiting for the next breakdown/failure etc.

you are correct, Bash, headed south it is normally a sleighride, relaxing, warm weather and reasonably predictable sea conditions. Headed north, the Baja Bash didn't get its name out of a cracker jack box... just put your head down and keep going up hill. Not many safe places to duck into for an overnight stay in either direction which is the point I was trying to make... Capt Phil

Looks like they're doing a steady 5.4 kts on average since leaving Cedros. At that rate they'll make Cabo San Lucas 46 hours from now. Forecast shows following winds, anywhere from 15 to 25 kts. Can't get much better than that. No need to stop--just enjoy the ride!

Looks like she changed course again and will clear San Carlos by 10 miles. Might be giving herself a place to pull into if she feels the need before the leg to Cabo.

my bet she is ascared of the lee shore and is being cautious on the approach...and will pull in to Carlos for a yummi snack.

If the wind's dead astern, it can be a lot more comfortable to "tack" downwind. The boat goes faster, so you overcome the longer distance sailed. Looks like that's what they're doing to me.

Nay, not I...looks to me they are cutting the corner and keep'n a reserve port n makin' the best o fit. They made a slight adjustment to port recently. I'll be impressed if they pass it yup and keep a'goin'
