It's official - Zac Sunderland sailed back into Marina del Rey this morning, completing his solo circumnavigation and putting his name in the record books. From the story in the Los Angeles Times:

"Zac Sunderland, 17, became the youngest sailor to circumnavigate the globe Thursday, completing his 13-month journey in Marina del Rey.

"The 17-year-old from Thousand Oaks is the youngest sailor to complete the feat. The journey lasted 13 months.

MAN....That's just fantastic. I am so happy for his success. It matters not if Mike makes it. They are 2 different ordeals, and I hope, and do believe Zac understands that!!!!!!......i2f

Congrats big time. 13 months on an Islander 36 using only one canal is extraordinary. I don’t care how tricked out the boat is or how much support he has. And frankly, I don’t care about the age thing either. This is an awesome achievement for anyone solo sailing a real cruising boat.

I was quite a good turn out, I counted about 50-60 boats trailing him as he came into the channel, there was probably another 30-40 down the channel or milling about. That's pretty good for a Thursday morning. The place he landed was packed and people were packed onto stair cases and balconies. Unfortunatlely I couldn't stay around for his talk, had a meeting I couldn't change. I'm sure it will show up on youtube. Will try to post some photos later if any come out.

Now comes the really difficult part ... dealing with the psychological and emotional after-math ....

That is GREAT news!! I love seeing the young doing such accomplishments!! It gives me hope for the younger generation!! I also agree on, how can he go back to "civilized" life after breaking through some walls!! Congrats to this true young adventurer!!
