Why didn't Gilligan think of this?

It seems there is much more to this story, but glad it ended well. Seems the moral is to use as many devices in the tool box as you can even if they might seem a little hokey.

Re: Why didn't Gilligan think of this?

Why did they spend all those years building huts, exercise equipment, pedal powered generators, etc. instead of fixing the boat?

Why did they pack all those clothes for a three hour tour?

Not to mention Ginger!

Although at my age I am probably more in line for Mrs. Howell.
With any luck she has a good health insurance plan (none of this Obama / Medi-Care nonsense) and is willing to dump her millionaire husband for a guy with a boat that floats.

Re: Why didn't Gilligan think of this?

Actually, Gilligan did think of that rescue technique but the effort was botched.

From the Gilligan's Island Wiki:

"Episode 90. The Professor tries contacting a manned space capsule in orbit over the Island to get them rescued. Their initial plan to contact the capsule with a makeshift transmitter fails because their signal isn't strong enough, but their second plan to contact the astronauts with an SOS formed out of (burning) tree trunks almost works until Gilligan sets himself on fire and accidentally skews the SOS into "SOL." Astronaut Sol Tobias merely thinks it's a message to him..........."

Yeah! No kidding!

I would have preferred to see Ginger and Maryann naked after the first couple of weeks!

Frankly, I never did understand what ever was so bad about that island!! They had everything they could want and a few fun friends around them and people from around the world dropped in on them all the time. What more does one need in life?

Re: Why didn't Gilligan think of this?

I figured Gilligan had a little side action with MaryAnn and knew it wouldn't last if they got back to civilization, so he constantly messed up the rescue plans.

Well he was a navy sailor so action with Mary Ann in one of the many caves is a given

Absolutely!!

Unfortunately, I was too young to 'get it' when I first watched it.

Also a little too young to understand the 'benifets' that certain members of the group could have been providing.

Re: Why didn't Gilligan think of this?

One must wonder about the professor too. He can make batteries out of seaweed, transmute metals with dead insects and bamboo, but he can't fix a hole in a wooden boat? Hmmm. Perhaps there is a sinister subplot I am missing?!
