Vessel boarded and robbed between Trinidad and Grenada

This is disheartening to see, it is all over the Grenada and Caribbean cruisers groups on face book.
Vessel heading from Chagraumas to Port Louis was stopped and robbed by armed men a week ago. I have been seeing more and more incidents that seem to never make it to noonsite lately. 3 In the last 2 months as I recall. Makes me wonder why people aren't reporting it. Or is noonsite not easy to report to?

Re: Vessel boarded and robbed between Trinidad and Grenada

Chris Doyle > ‎Grenada Cruisers Information

"Sad news but you should be aware of it. A yacht was boarded by a fishing boat armed with a gun that looked like a rapid fire automatic and robbed about half way between Trinidad and Grenada. Cash, passports, computers and electronics were taken, no one was hurt. The vessel was, as far as I understand, on a pretty direct route from Chaguaramas to Port Louis.
I would not let this stop me sailing to Trinidad, but I think I would try to sty a bit east of the direct route. The TT coastguard know about it, Hopefully they will take rapid action."

Yet another reason to sail fully armed. Also I'm thinking some pre made ready to go Molotov Cocktails might be handy as well.

You'll be criticized for this position that so very many of us agree with. Don't bother to argue. Wussies win every time.

Thanks Gord!

And hell yes, armed.
Quick resolution.

Noonsite has been quite selective lately on what to publish.

Not wanting this to turn into a gun thread but there are reports that the assault rifle (and shotgun) they are using was taken from another cruiser they robbed earlier.
Thankful no one was hurt.

That "report" was pure speculation. No basis for it at all.

Training, Practice and Situational Awareness would have prevented this.

Re: Vessel boarded and robbed between Trinidad and Grenada

Can we talk about Molotov Cocktails on this thread? Anyone ever experiment with them? I would think that gasoline is to volatile and could blow up in your hand? In an emergency, if I needed one, how would I proceed? I have ideas about making a sort of potato cannon that could launch beer bottles using propane and possibly ignite the molotov in the process. Anyone care to experiment and post results? If you started launching exploding bottles toward an approaching lancha from what appeared to be a large black bazooka would they not think twice about trying to board you? I am not trying to start a gun thread. I am anti gun. This could be a legal weapon made from abs or pvc plastic that could be kept in a locker ready to snap together. I have actually been thinking about this for years and decided to bring it up here (and if this takes fruit, this post is my witness that it was me that conceived of it). If the forum moderators will allow this discussion I would like to see it moved to its own thread. For the experiments we need to think about safety, I do not want it to weigh on me if anybody gets hurt trying this. Some ideas to explore: bottle nose forward or backward. Types of bottles (beer, wine, different brands of beer using different diameter bottles, type of plastic, grade of pipe (sch.40 etc.), Ignition source (bbq lighter, spark plug, lighter flint). Experiments should begin by only firing bottles but I am interested in exploding bottles as well. I don't want anyone to get hurt so be very careful!!! I also do not want to hurt anyone but we should have some deterrent worked out, Right?

Yea but......

If it helps open just one or two eyes to the truth it's worth it.

If it saves a life it's worth it.

If one thinks like a victim one becomes a victim.

Would those be the "wussies" who sail all over the world without cowering behind fantasies of burning people alive with petrol bombs? Oh yeah, those wussies. And while you're at it, how many leisure vessels can you show evidence of which have been successfully defended by the use of "molotov cocktails"?
