Awwww... Damn... I got the definition of 'Smug' wrong Again...

Cheers Christian...

I'm gonna have to start using "Wiki" more often..

latest status update from the Dalai Lama on face book.
It is not difficult to forgive destruction in the past, caused by ignorance. Today, we have access to more information. It is essential that we re-examine ethically what we have inherited, what we are responsible for, and what we will pass on to coming generations. This is clearly a pivotal generation. Global communication is possible, yet confrontations take place more often than meaningful dialogues for peace.

Conachair,

The Dalai is not just a smart man but wise man.

I think that might be the same point the OP was making about our oceans, illustrated with that excellent but shocking video.

Confrontation, controversy... essential to human progress... without it we never would have had many of the things we take for granted today.
Thats the soul of invention and new lifestyles... not a simple acceptance of what someone else says...
Every worthwhile achievement has involved confrontation...
its what makes this such a great site...

The problem with this medium though, is, that it lacks the visual/audio of normal communications.. hence sometimes slightly askew interpretations of possible meanings of the written word... leading to a tad of animosity.
Take it as tongue in cheek.. no one wants a "Fight".. once a posts out there your gonna be confronted.. enjoy it for what it is.. a fun way to hopefully learn something.. I know I have.

Sorry bout dat... It's my "I'll pretend I'm DEEP Day"

Back in the early 70s, my then wife and I were doing Anthropological field work in a small village in Iran. We had one daughter, three yrs old. The FIRST thing all women asked my wife was 'How do you keep from having more children, and how do we get it?' No question about who wants birth control. Also no question that it is the men - in most societies - that keep it from happening. Also true that no matter what we do about resource management, population growth will undo the progress.

It would be appreciated if we could move this back towards something on the topic of cruising and boats.

Thanks

So basicly what your saying is my little rarely used 4hp 2stroke creates a bigger footprint than your 40+hp deisel... even though you'll run up more hrs in a month than I'd run in a year... yeah... whatever..

So what can we, as cruisers, do to help the oceans, the place where we intend to spend our lives?

Let's each try to think of one concrete and helpful thing. Wuduya say?

I'll start: Buy and eat only ecologically sustainable fish.

Look here
Seafood Selector (Main Page) - Environmental Defense Fund
for help with choices.
