Urgent - Getting Info to / from Haiti

Is there any chance of getting information into or out of Haiti? Specifically, I'm trying to find a friend missing since the earthquake.

Thanks,
Jim

Jim,

Communications with Haiti are very tenuous. You can get messages IN to Haiti via the Salvation Army website: Untitled Document

Click on the yellow "Health and Welfare Information Request" banner halfway down the main page.

Ham comms OUT of Haiti are few and far between. Father John is using 14300 (the MM Service Net). A couple of other hams are supposed to be coming up as well. Weak signals, battery or generator driven power.

Probably the best source of news -- though not specific to an individual -- is the media: CNN, CBS, etc.

Thank you Bill. That's something we haven't seen before. I'll pass it on the their family.

DERA* & SATERN* radio operators are helping to provide vital emergency communications in Haiti. Their websites have situation reports.

Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response Association (DERA)
DERA International - The Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response Association

Salvation Army Team Emergency Radio Network (SATERN)
SATERN

Evidently, the following frequencies are in use for earthquake-related traffic, and should be kept clear unless you are able to provide requested assistance:
14265 (SATERN); 14300 (IATN), 7045 (IARU Region II) and 3720 (IARU Region II) kHz.
Additional frequencies may be activated on different bands at different times of day, so be sure to listen carefully before transmitting to make sure you are not interfering with emergency traffic.

*SATERN: 14.265 MHz Primary Daytime. 7265 and 3977.7 KHz evening and night

We just heard that Manny has been found. He, his wife, and brother are all OK. Unfortunately, the family did lose some loved ones, and some are still missing, but Manny and his wife are now waiting to return to Florida. Thank you for your efforts.
