Re: Tropical weather starting to arrive

Been grey and drizzly here for a couple days; now we're getting real rain. I guess no sailing this weekend.

Hoping it will be mostly rain, and minimal wind up the coast....

The track will make for a wet East Coast.

I'm on the northern edge of Bradenton, right on the river (it's 10:20 AM here). They say this is the "worst" of it. I would estimate winds at about 20 mph, steady, with heavy to very heavy rain. I've heard slight occasional rumbles of thunder.

On the other hand, there's a tornado warning for southern Pinellas County (including Gulfport and Tropicana Field) until 10:30.

However, the tornadoes spawned by this storm are very small and not powerful, nothing like the midwest has said, although if you are in their narrow path they're going to chew up some trees, take shingls and such off houses, throw lawn furniture around, etc.

I'll take my work clothes in a plastic bag.later today but it's just not bad.

However, it's close to low tide, and the boat is where we are typically at high tide, so I'll be getting off the boat in the next hour to make sure I can and get to work.

By comparison Debbie was much rougher; instead of "gently rocking," the boat heeled several times in her slip aboub 30º. In the unsheltered slips near the opening to Boca Ciega Bay, the boats were rocking more like 45 - 50º. Was afraid boat riggings might get tangled, but those are small boats in that area and it didn't happen. However, the most exposed fellow there had a 20' Flicka. He put her on a trailer and moved her.

Oh yeah, good news for me -- NO water in the boat, not anywhere. Yay!

In New England I've resorted to painting one side of the bottom when the rain was blowing one direction, then when the front went through and the wind shifted the rain the other way I painted the other side. And then there was the year where I had to wait for the frost to melt off before I could paint the topsides in June!

Tampa is reporting winds SW 36 gusting to 45 at the moment. Nice little blow. Stay safe everyone.

Re: Tropical weather starting to arrive

Wonderful, leaving for Newfoundland Thursday next, by car driving up. will sail the small boat back. But it should all be well gone and not effect me.

But I am hoping for a quiet season, or at least storms well off the coast to give me something with some North in it.

Re: Tropical weather starting to arrive

A tropical system often cleans up the weather for a week or so. Maybe it will be great next week.
