Dunno about you but slow down a bit and do North Atlantic next spring

Re: The GGR race, discussion and news

Mark has not much to gain by continuing. He is out of the race already. He has proven himself by sailing non-stop halfway around the world. If he is still set on a solo circumnavigation, he can now do it at his leisure and in more of a cruising style.

Personally, I would take the Adelaide summer. The risk of a serious accident is far too high in continuing.

Depends if you like four or five days in a row of 40 degrees or more. My Scottish/Norwegian ancestry is a bit happier in cooler places. [emoji846]

I think this might be his thinking. I don’t know him well personally, just from the times we’ve talked on the dock at the club or in the chandlery looking for boat bits, but each time I came away with the impression of a capable guy with nothing to prove but with a great sense of adventure. So if he can find a way to complete the journey safely and in comfort I’d bet he takes it over some macho chest beating exercise in risk.

I suppose I am projecting a bit, but I do hope he finds a way to complete it for his own peace of mind. Not the race bit, I’d guess he can take or leave that part, but I got the impression from him that he was really into the concept of re-enacting the journey itself.

But I could just be projecting again. [emoji846]

All windvanes regardless of brand have broken in a few circumstances. In general, most cruisers who visit windvane manufacturers at the boat show have nothing but positive things to say about their experiences using windvanes. There’s pros and cons to either a system you can fix yourself or one you have to ship back to the manufacturer for repairs. Any system can be overloaded, bent or broken. Fortunately, this is not the norm.

Fiorentino has worked next to Scanmar who makes the Monitor and Hydrovane at the boat shows. Both past and present owners of these companies provide excellent service and go out of their way to make their customers happy. They’re very receptive to customer feedback.

Interesting position on the race course now for the two leaders.

Depending on what the wind does for the Leader JLVDH, Mark Slats might be able to make up some miles and turn this thing into a decent race

Maybe C.C. should simply move to the Moitessier class....

On a happier note, Susanne on Nehaj has quietly rounded the Horn and this morning is just south of Isla Estados.

Well done, Susanne.

Good time of year for it..... Cook Strait, Montt, Rapa Nui, Tahiti.... the modified Moitessier.... avoids the cyclone season

Sorry, I thought you were giving Adelaide a serve. But no, just the summers. My bad.

Yeah, the summers here are... testing. That's why I plan to spend as much of them as possible this year in Tassie.
