What a come back. Oracle Team retains the Cup after being down 8-1. Impressive comeback.

I really wouldn't want to be drinking in an Auckland pub sporting an Oracle T-shirt right about now.

Re: Team USA wins the America's Cup

I enjoyed the race and yes, the US boat won but I think the crew were primarily Kiwis anyways. I hope they change that rule.

Re: Team USA wins the America's Cup

We live in New Zealand and even though we're Americans we were definite Emirates Team New Zealand supporters. Love the picture of the t-shirt - Oracle only had one American on their crew so not sure the USA in their team name was really applicable.

Re: Team USA wins the America's Cup

The only american thing about all this was the money behind Oracle.... whoever won it was going to be an anzac victory.

Yes...so true but that does say a lot for the American effort. I didn't see many other free nations entering in. Having said that, I hope the next AC goes to a cheaper venue.

The venue wasn't the reason other teams couldn't compete - it was the cost of the design, development and building of the boats that was the cost problem, along with the fact that these were completely new platforms that would require constant tweeking and changes during the series.

San Francisco is a perfect venue - a natural amphitheater with views of the races from just about anywhere and good consistent winds. Let alone a great city with lots to do and much boat building expertise and available space in the area.

Re: Team USA wins the America's Cup

Requiring only people from your own country on the boat didn't occur until 1980, imposed by the NYYC:

Apparently didn't last long.
