Students Learning with Unmanned Sailing Craft

Students involved in the Educational Passages (cobweb under reconstruction) program in the Maine school system have launched this year's fleet of mini-boats - 4.5' sailboat hulls carrying a payload of gps instruments to track their progress as they are blown and drift across the Atlantic. The program includes earth sciences and history as part of the teaching.

This year's boats are nearly to their destinations: the Carribean and Europe (although one seems to have taken a flyer toward the Canaries instead!) The boats were launched by the Main Maritime Academy's annual cruise.
