I was just on Easter Island and saw the P-3 fly past. Glad they found him! May his spirit never die!

Pushing the button on an EPIRB normally save money it is why they have been made compulsory. Pushing the button does not mean that you will be rescued.

Re: Single Handed 84 Year Old Rescued off Easter Island

I thought my Grandfather was a legend for getting a new push bike for his 80th! Hell this old fellow out there sailing solo around the cape is so cool. If anything, at least he is proving I have another forty good years on the water left; well maybe if I keep going for it like him?

Re: Single Handed 84 Year Old Rescued off Easter Island

Hey Canibul, being patted down at the airport is the most action my crotch sees for a couple of months at a time, enjoy the attention where you get it. And they do have a sailor evaluation department in the USA, it is the USCG, and they do set fairly rigorous standards for us mariners, those of us who do it for money as well as love. I was running charters down in Florida in my 20s for a winter gig, and I met many old timers that had sacrificed their lives to the company for 40 years for a "Retirement" in Florida, and they appeared to be empty husks waiting to fall over into a grave, they made a strong imprint on me and I swore by all that was holy that I would not end up like that. I have every intention of dying at sea, hopefully at the helm of my own vessel at the tender age of 96. The last thing I need in the world is a "nanny" telling me when I have to swallow my anchor. I say good on sailing around the Horn at 84, and if it takes a dozen times who cares?

Captain 58 -Right on! Me too!
Let me know when you're ready for the Vallhala cruise - I'll be your deck hand - you're boat is fancier than mine! Might as well go out in style!

Why 96... does the thought of getting old scare you....
or are 97 or 95 unlucky numbers....
Just asking...

Re: Single Handed 84 Year Old Rescued off Easter Island

I once had a lady seer tell me that I would live to be 96, she also told me she saw me in a convertible with 2 women, which turned out to be a '71 Chevy Blazer with the top off and a couple of grand mothers, oh well, close, but no banana, I was 19 at the time. You bet Geoduck, I just don't know when that cruise will be, but I'll keep you posted. I got a couple more years in the traces before I go back to doing my own thing full time.
