No, really, that is the official name. The annual Silly Boat Regatta is held in Nanaim, on Vancouver Island, on the west coast of Canada every year. Contestants have 4 hours to build the goofiest vessel they can, then launch it and race round a course. The audience is as interested in seeing the disintegration of entries as the winning team completing the course.
For those interested in attending and possibly hanging around the interesting and historic harbor, remember Nanaimo has instituted an anchoring fee to push on liveaboards and 'derelicts'. (A phone call to the port authority to get details ended up in voicemail. The Port's website does not detail the anchoring fee.)
