Re: SeaDoo Record from Key West to Cancun

Did you take into account that this whole trip is upstream?

65 mph for 7/8 hours in the open gulf in a seadoo? you should also qualify for a darwin award

Re: SeaDoo Record from Key West to Cancun

Anyone who has done 65mph in a jet ski knows it is hard and very tiring to maintain unless the water is very very calm. As in lake glass calm or with at most small ripples in the water. Any kind of chop makes it difficult, tiring, and uncomfortable. At 30mph it would be much more realistic. I still can't see the point in doing it but that's a different story

Good luck to you, but finding fuel on Dry Tortuga might be a challenge.....

Re: SeaDoo Record from Key West to Cancun

I dont see any possibility of averaging 65mph, probably could not run that in a 30ft boat. I believe you will be very lucky to run 25mph. Have you calculated what effect the extra fuel weight will have on your speed and fuel consumption?

Since we haven't heard from the op since 2010 I guess he thought better of it.

Oh well, there are thousands more to take his place. I personally despise jetskis because of the actions of many.

Re: SeaDoo Record from Key West to Cancun

I know that this is an old thread, but I was wondering if anyone ever completed this trip. If anyone is interested in making it happen feel free to email me at jcbenson01gmail.com. I believe this trip is very do-able. I was considering key west to Havana and then Havana down the coast to Cabo de San Antonio where fuel and supplies can be taken on. From there, it is approximately 100 miles to Isla Mujeres.

It will most definitely not be easy but I have cruised via pwc from Florida to StanielCay, Exumas and back which was approximately 700 miles round trip and the longest distance on water was about 140+/- miles between Bimini and Nassau. So I am no stranger to what is involved.

I am considering doing this trip potentially in mid 2019 if anybody is interested.
