Re Reading Old Sailing Mags

My wife suggested it was time to throw out some old sailing mags, I said "let me see them first, please". I have enjoyed re reading old issues of Cruising World, water sailing">Blue Water sailing and was surprised that i didn't remember the articles. What a nice way to spend the evenings, since there is nothing good on TV!

I still can't parrt with them, sorry honey.

Cruising World should be renamed "Charter World". It used to be a good mag with honest articles. Now it seems to be the advertisers' portal to the public with no content which might be deemed scary to the potential charter public.

For those of us who have forgotten more than we remember... Those old mags are a wealth of knowledge.

Part of what I like about GOB is much of the old content is available on a CD.

One of the really interesting things about looking at the old mags is remembering what I thought was important then vs now. I wanted a bullet proof, SA/D = X, capsize proof, Lloyds registered, with this and that electronics, and the capacity to carry a years supply of food and water, all made out of the latest techno materials. These days I don't get the autopilot out because it's usually easier to use a bungie cord for a daysail. My how reality changes the dream...
