That's because deep down, they know they won't get in on their own merits. Selah.

I think we will eventually have no choice as long as we keep exterminating other species and making portions of this beautiful planet uninhabitable.

Some people would label an Eco-Fighter as a terrorist because it is an easy label to justify their way of life. For me, they are the fighters for diversity and freedom of life!

It's genocide you're proposing.

tcg-
I'm not comparing Lisa Simpson to you, or vice versa. She is, topically, a poster girl for conserving all sorts of things including whales.

So you're saying, it is OK to hunt and kill and eat, unless the victim is from an endangered species? If we could raise the whales in captivity, then it would OK to use them for dog food? No, I don't think that is what you mean, I say it because the extinction criteria is only one of several arbitrary ones.

And yes, I do think the WWF aggrandized themselves. "Bronx Zoo" was good enough until they decided to start big time fund raising. If they are conserving endangered species because that's good for business--say so. If it is for empathy with other species, well...there's that hot dog cart, and I'm told pigs are just as loveable as dogs, once you get past the "thousand pounds and will eat anything" bit.

I don't see any purpose to the whaling and the Japanese plea of "cultural" doesn't impress me any more than their sun-god-emperor did. Then again, I think paying a basketball player (a corporate franchise employee?!) ten million a year makes no sense either. I'm so easily puzzled by these things.

Indeed you are, because that is exactly what they are saying. If could raise whales in a tank, then you could sell them for dog food.

No problem.

It's just that when you kill them, you have to sneak up behind them where they can't see you...

Sometimes I think we might be more prolific than cockroaches, and certainly make more of a mess.

That's right. Just like what the Somali pirates are getting.

Oh, wait. They are mostly getting millions of dollars and seldom see the hard end of any stick.

You should take your stick and let them have a few good whacks!

Gimme a stick. I'll go whack'em and whop'em. Beat'em and bop'em.

Now quit bothering me. I'm thinking about working on my boat and I can't multitask too well.

Please see my comment about 2 wrongs not making a right. NEITHER party is innocent in this! There are ways to deal with this and if Sea shepherd can afford to operate a ship of that size then they must have some capital. They should use that capital to get sanctioned as eco-enforcement and then go out and give the whalers the stick or stay out of the judgement end of things and stick to rallying support and inciting public outrage until the folks already in the enforcement biz take care of the issue. They can not be judge, jury, and executioner.

As far as the japanese are concerned, their claim to cultural rights is fine by me... until they infringe upon the rest of the planet's right to a stable ecosystem and the whales right to survive as a species.

You're right, Coltex. Neither party is innocent. But in my view, Sea Shepherd is clearly right, and the whalers are clearly wrong. Your thought about sanctioning Sea Shepherd as eco-enforcement is a good one, but the likelihood of that happening is below zero. And waiting for the long arm of the law to reach the whalers may take longer than the whales will last. Sea Shepherd does not intend to set itself up as judge or jury, and certainly not executioner. They wish merely to enforce the international ban. They would be greatly satisfied to simply escort the whalers out of the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary.
