I came up with a 3k word response to this but what it really boils down to is this:
two wrongs still dont make a right and the ends still dont justify the means.
The japanese whalers are taking something from allof us by irresponsibly hunting the whales to excess.
Th sea shepherd folks are just vigilantes, they have no right to attack folks who are out there trying to feed their families. Furthermore disabling a ship at sea could easily become a death sentence for those aboard and they definitely do not have the right to risk the lives of an entire crew. Maybe if they disabled the ship in port I would side with them, but never on open water.

What's the alternative, then? Do nothing? Look the other way? Turn the other cheek? Rely on the condemnation of the international community to shame the whalers out of their greed? Good luck with all that.

If you want to prevent shark attacks on humans, keep the humans out of the water. Want to prevent whale/sailboat collision? Keep your boat out of the ocean.
Pretty simple really. This might be the silliest thing I have seen on CF yet.

Until we sprout gills, we can safely assume that humans were not designed or supposed to be in the oceans. That is not our neighborhood, we are visitors and need to respect those who DO belong in the ocean.

Now if marauding sharks start terrorizing your neighborhood, then we can talk about setting a limit to keep the population down to prevent attacks.

If you look at it from a conservation/sustainability view point, the sharks eating humans are just doing us a favor because humans are so over populated.

The open seas is the "open seas". Like the Wild West, there is no law there except that which is imposed by the people who live there.

SeaShepard has taken on the role of town council, sheriff, and executioner. They granted the "right to life" to the whales, found the offenders, and punished them according to their own law. They have made white hats for themselves and have appointed themselves to protect the whales by any means necessary.

What can you do about it? You can load up your sailboat with rusty screws and nails, bottles of gasoline, and a WaterWorld style harpoon gun and you can go out there and start making your own law.

But if you attack a flagged vessel under the protection of a foreign nation, whether or not you are in the jursidiction of that nation, you can expect to be at the hard end of their big stick whether you think you deserved it or not.
