Three cheers for the ozzys! (I hope that is a correct term, no offense intended)
I must confess that while there is no love between me and pirates I am glad when they are put put of action with out bloodshed on either side(I completely know what you mean and in my worse moments would like to see some sharks well fed)

Yeah, I get your point. While we, as civilised people, dont like the idea of bloodshed. These guys live by the sword -so to speak. If they knew that they would be blasted out of the water, rather then being fed and clothed, they may just opt for a career change
Cheers

I'm sure they were concerned about not polluting the water.

So, what did they do with them ?
Did they just stop them and take away their guns and then let them go home for new guns ?
I don't want to seem ungrateful but ...

Not too sure what happened to be honest. Toowoomba, like many other ships, are sailing under an international agreement. (india,US, France UK Turkey, Sth Korea and yes even Iran)
I would assume the UN or similar orginisation will take over the processing. A recent case was heard in the Seychelles Supreme Court. Aside from that I have no idea.
Cheers

That is a 2009 story
More here HMAS Toowoomba turns heat on pirates

Unfortunately, some on here would advocate blowing these local legitimate fishermen out of the water with high powered weapons.
Thankfully, some take a more sensible approach.
And some more here Media Release - Department of Defence

Wouldn't it be clear they are pirates once they are boarded and guns are discovered?
I think it would be hard to argue they are fisherman if they have no fishing gear and have guns. Even if they have fishing gear, the guns would be a stronger argument in my opinion.
No guns and fishing gear, I'd be inclined to believe they would be fisherman.

They have to have a warrant before they board your house, the advantage of being a C.L.O.D.

Just this week pirates got 9 I say NINE Million US Dollars ransom for a South Korean supertanker held for 7 I say Seven month . and in Kenya pirates were relesed by the courts as the courts did not think the evidence
supplied by American and British forces were strong enough ... I say this week
a Vietnamese hostage died of malnutrition .... And finally pirates fired on an American Frigate . They will be tried in an American court where conviction of piracy carries the death penaalty I say wait and see and lets us report as we find out. My info comes from Danish maritime news
