looks like it will miss most of the northen islands,though heavy rainfall could cause some problems

Yep. Still remember what heavy rainfall triggered in Madeira not that long ago.

Places further South may get very bad winds, looks like Santa Maria and Sao Miguel will see the worst.

I just hope the thing will ease somewhat or change its track before tomorrow.

Interestingly, I visited some Portuguese wx sources today and they say nothing of the possibly disastrous wx.
