Re: Ocean Girl and Rain Dog Are Getting Married !

I just read through this thread,- Congratulations Rain Dog and Ocean Girl! I especially enjoyed this post as a sit aboard at the closing of the day of our own 41st wedding anniversary with almost forty years of living aboard cruisng as a couple. Just today, again, we marveled at how wonderful life is. Take this, and as John Masefield said, "the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sails shaking..." all awaits!

Re: Ocean Girl and Rain Dog Are Getting Married !

My wife and I had a good chuckle yesterday over this Onion article:

Genuine Love And Respect Only Thing Holding Area Relationship Together | The Onion - America's Finest News Source

I hope you have the same sort of marital troubles. . . .

"CROWLEY, LA—According to friends of Brian and Stacey Stockton, the couple's 30-year marriage is currently hanging by a thread, with only their profound love and mutual respect for one another keeping them together. "If they don't get a divorce soon, I'd be surprised, because at this point all they've really got to go on is their deep, abiding trust, strong sense of commitment, and willingness to compromise," neighbor Vince Cafferty told reporters Sunday, adding that the only thing preventing the couple from separating is the fact that they've acted as beacons of support and affection for each other from the moment they first met. "Marriages like that—built on empathy, a rock-solid belief system, and undying devotion—simply can't last. There's just nothing there." Cafferty added that he thinks the Stocktons are only staying together for their kids, who went away to college years ago, have recently gotten married, and now use their parents' relationship as a model for their own."

Re: Ocean Girl and Rain Dog Are Getting Married !

Well just a quick update on the great Cruiser Forum love story of Rain Dog and Ocean Girl.

The good news is Brian and I are married!! the bad news is a week after he proposed I was diagnosed with a Brain tumor, BUT it is benign, 90% cure rate, and will not shorten my life, or have any loss of function. I will be back to my sunny Ocean Girl ways in no time.. I will update the blog for anyone who wants the TMI side of the story .

The"real" wedding is still planned for November, Brian just wanted more say in my medical treatment, so we ran to the local courthouse and he made an honest woman of me ( the old brain tumor trick, works every time)

Anyways, Brian is wonderful, and my total hero. He rarely left my side during my 6 days in ICU (total ten days in the hospital) sleeping in a chair at my bedside, getting mre whatever i needed, he is the perfect husband, I am beyond blessed.

Sorry to drop such a bomb, but wanted to explain my absence from all my friends here. Our plans are to still leave in May next year, though we may stick to the Caribbean for a while before moving onto the South Pacific.

Hope all is well,
Erika

OG, that has to be the sweetest mix of good and bad news I've ever read. Best of luck to you in taking care of the tumor and the best of everything for you both. And, Congratulations and blessings on your marriage.

Sounds like news nobody really likes but at least you have plenty of good coming out of it. All the best to both of you!

Erika, so glad to hear from you - I had been wondering where you are

Congratulations on the wedding!

I am sorry to hear of your news, but am glad that it is a controllable situation. You seem to be counting your blessings, and making yummy lemonade out of the lemons you've been given.

Re: Ocean Girl and Rain Dog Are Getting Married !

Speakeasy has already eloquently said it all, Erika . . . please accept my sincere "me, too" to what he has posted. As you are the poster child for Cruisers Forum's romance area , we are confident that you and Brian will soon be cruising the world in the best of health and kindly taking us all along with you through your romantic written accounts.

It is your destiny to follow your mother's wake around the world in the company of your husband and hero, then write a book about the adventure . . . I can't wait to read all about it.

Congrats and best wishes to you both! One thing about medical emergencies ... it REALLY focuses you on what your priorities are. Glad to hear things seem to be going well for you in that area also.

I would have been spending quality time with my mates at the pub watching football.

Congrats on the marriage and good luck with your recovery

Did they let you keep the goopy bits they cut out?
