NY Canal System closing early

We are heading south on the Oswego and Erie Canal System right now. We've been advised that the entire NY Canal System will close this year on October 11, 2017 for maintenance. Locks are also free this year. However, if you purchase a commercial pass and advise them of your itinerary, they will supposedly let you through after this date.
