News Flash from the "You've Got to be Kidding Department"
From Latitude 38...
"The big news today is that AC34 [in San Francisco Bay] will be designated a "National Special Security Event," which means that the Secret Service will take over the responsibility for the regatta's security and the FBI will take over policing duties... The announcement was accompanied by a new maritime security plan that shows all harbors [including Marinas] being closed during the 43 days of racing from July through September..."
Way to Go San Francisco!!!

That whole page on Lat 38 was well written, to the point of your quote of,, YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME, but I wouldn't put it past DHS

The best story was Singlehander Saved by Real Doll About the Dutch Singlehander Alleen Lullig was saved by holding on to his lifelike doll when his boat suddenly sank... Great Job!

Re: News Flash from the "You've Got to be Kidding Department"
I used to work with the Secret Service guys. Sorry, they don't do marina security. they take care of treasury issues (counterfeiting, check and and credit card fraud) and they have the Protective Division which guards the President, First Lady, former Presidents and many foreign heads of state when they visit.
They also have the Uniformed Division that guard the White House and Old Executive Office Building (OEOB) in DC....
So it was a joke from the get-go.

Things appear to have changed, since you served.
According to The Department of Homeland Security Fact Sheet:
National Special Security Events
"When an event is designated a National Special Security Event, the U.S. Secret Service assumes its mandated role as the lead federal agency for the design and implementation of the operational security plan and Federal resources are deployed to maintain the level of security needed for the event and the area..."
Here ➥ DHS: Fact Sheet: National Special Security Events
Nonetheless, it was a joke.
