New Piracy Corridor

UKHO has just released a new chart of the Gulf of Aden showing a "safe" corridor to be used for transit. A PDF can be downloaded from

me thinks hugging the shoreline of yemen still a viable option, short of escort vessel (like a DESTROYER...they "earned" that name) within sight to consider that particular "recommended" route? Most successfully pirated vessels have been on that exact track when hijacked.

Of course the UK PM recommended that former (& most recently) a Lockerby Pan AM bomber be returned to Libya as well? Equally intelligent "suggestion".
Best policy is to continue to avoid the Gulf of Aden (as well as w/i 200NM of Nigeria) completely if You can.

No offense Intented Talbot (or Anjou, or any of the rest of the Brits out there reading this...or who might)
jmo, backed up by plenty of friends & neighbors who're Merchant Marines;
(& of course the international, unbiased fact based maps noted below)

Decision was actually taken by the Scots rather than UK PM as this is one of the responsibilities devolved to Scotland. I believe that they are supposed to at least talk to whitehall about decisions that are likely to have heavy political fall out, but expect that this did not happen. Gordon Brown AFAIK has been keeping quiet about this - difficult to believe about any politican.

In any case, it is hardly being nice to the bomber with advanced cancer, when you return him to a country with no cancer care!

One of the nation state sponsors of Terrorism, going back a long way is Libya; Kuadaffi (<--seen it spelled about 12 different ways, Momar for clarification) visited the PM, TWICE in the month before the release?
Me thinks Norway only gets the news BBC feels fit to print/desseminate;
My apologies for taking the thread (further) off topic; and yes, for what it's worth also have to read BBC to get the "truth"/real news about what's going on here in the states...often;

As for sending him home, it sure is amazing how he could barely crawl up the ladder leaving, and was DANCING down the stairs upon arrival? Momar now has a national symbol to tout; If You think the full weight of the governments' financial resources won't be dedicated to curing his cancer (including trip{s} to Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Kuwait and/or the UAE which have some of the best cancer treatment centers in the world) won't be mustered, further think You're sadly mistaken. National Heroes don't get tossed to the trash heap of history...prematurely. The Cost of the aircraft to fly his fanny home was far less than a full recovery and series of surgeries to remedy his current malady.

He should have died in prison...or worse.
There are 200+ American Families who were negatively touched by his actions. They find no sympathy for him, years later.
This act (on the part of Scotland & "possibly" the PM) was a sharp stick in every family members' eye.

now the news (here) claims that radical fronts within Other States Sponsoring Terrorism are already putting pressure on Their leadership to "Play their cards" the way Momar did?

Giving tacit approval (by releasing prisoners) of murderous conduct, breeds more murderous conduct. Next time, sadly, it'll probably be a Scotish target. Like Piracy, or attempted Piracy, I believe the "justice" should be swift and severe. If people are willing to "meet allah (or whoever) in an attempt to seize our vessel, we'll relentllessly attempt to grant them their wish while repelling unwanted/unauthorized boarders.

my opinion only;

Every time I go to Aden I see cruisers in the harbor...they aren’t all getting pirated.

Let's keep it on-topic and non-political guys. While an interesting discussion, it has no particular relevance to CF. Thank you.

You know, I always like hearing from a person who actually knows and isn't talking about something utterly unrelated and several countries away.
