Re: Mexico

Not sure why you deleted the link...
US, Canadian boaters left in limbo in Mexico

As media goes, it is sensationalized and a little dramatic.

1)They didn't "storm" marinas.
2)They were not targeting Americans/Canadians. The were checking compliance of boats. Although they seem to have not been trained how to do it.
3)Permits were $50, not $70.
4)"The office says it has four months to decide whether to release the boards or sell them at auction". To my knowledge, nothing was stated about auctioning them off.
5)"...came by and slapped liens on the boats"...They did not lien the boats. They have a temporary restriction on their leaving until the paperwork is straightened out.
6)" anyone who tried to leave would be hunted down". Hunted down...really? "The owner, who expressed fear that speaking out by name could bring reprisals". How convenient...that way you don't have to verify the hunting down guff.
7)"... and fear their vessels might be seized if they tried to sail away even if they had paid the $70 tax". It's not $70 but $50 and it's not a tax. It's a fee for the TIP (Temporary Import Permit ).

I could go on and on. So lets just say an 8 year old could do a better job of reporting than these sensationalist.

You are right, and it's also a great lesson in how the Media can take an event and twist it, tweak it, and while still getting 80% of it "right" give a totally false impression of the overall story. We have firsthand details so we can identify the BS...how many other stories are tainted in a simular way that we don't have the facts on hand to spot it?
