Confused here. I can't see any evidence that Christian survived. What a dramatic event to punctuate this storm - the tall ship Bounty going down off Cape Hatteras, of all places.

Terrible thing, still scratching my head

I hope the Captain survives, but only so he and his backers can be PROSECUTED for gross incompetence.

Seems a little soon to wrath. Time for that once the conclusion is known.

I like the 'cycloptic boobtube'. (smile needed)

EVERY national network feed from right coast has it's newspeople out in waders where the water has risen. Some in the surf. Wating for a guy treading water.. rediculous!

I got a kick out of CBS's Scott Pelley, the evening anchor, doing the network broadcast from the effected area and he loses power and a stand-in anchor at the studio had to run the extended coverage.

News follow up says she was related.

We saw the ship in Green Bay in Aug 2010. Their sailmaker mended our jib for us and I had coffee with several of the crew. I recognized several of them steppin off the CG helicopter. SO sorry to hear of the loss of life. YOutube clips show the vessel toughing out bigger blows than this one. So far sounds like they lost the diesel and probably power so no pumps. At one point they were shipping two feet of water per hour and had 10 feet in the bilge. Sounds like a lot went wrong at once. I heard that it might be floating with mast tops showing so perhaps there is a possibility to salvage.

Here are photos I took in Green Bay at the Tall Ships festival and under sail off the Muskegon Channel entry a week later. I noticed as I approched in the dinghy with our sail that the rudder appeared to be a bit small for the sive of the ship. But what do I know.

RIP CC. Best wishes for the safe return of the captain. I would hope his cold weather gear has a beacon making it easier to spot at night.

Our local fire chief lost his daughter to an automobile accident with a large truck. She pulled out in front of him with barely enough time to spare, but her car stalled. He had no time to stop.

Sounds like the Bounty may have tried I move like the fire chief's daughter. In their case, as they tried to swing around the storm, mechanical problems intervieined and they were overtaken.
