Of course, the ship might be some miles away from the rescue location, but that depth sure looks like a re-float of the ship is rather unlikely.

Yes, the depth at that position is 2404 fathoms, or 14,434 feet. A bit of a challenge to divers :-)

REED 1V--THE CAPTAIN IS MISSING. his crew made it into life boats and he was swept away. so was the fletcher christian descendent. she was found. he has not been found as yet.

yes--bad news--they found her, did cpr, tried to save her, but the lady died... RIP. the captain is only one missing, now--i hope he is found and alive.

From my training in the North Sea, survival after 1 hour in our Gumby suit was a long shot. She was in warmer waters but for 10 hours.

I try to walk my mind through crisis events at sea and that helps me prepare for freak accidents and the what if's... It's a pretty good excercise and I find comfort when I am off shore because of it. Keep in mind, I'm normally on an unfamiliar boat for the first time moving her somewhere..

But swimming in a big sea way is a thought that scares me to nightmares.

The thought occurs. Why? They had plenty of warning on this storm. Were they dead in the water before the storm? The video also adds a very good account of what SAR people go through to rescue folks. This is crazy if they were just trying to get to Ft. Lauderdale so they could make an engagement of somekind. If so, the corporation should be billed for the expense.

its not so much the cold water, but the inability to breath. there is about a one foot layer of supersaturated air(think foam) that is impossible to breath without drowning in the stuff. the suits really need to have some type of compressed air helmets so one can breath for several hours. a recycling unit would be superb. think the survival time is about 6 hours in a gumby in about 50 degree(f) seas.
