She's looking great. It's amazing when you look at what you started with. It only took a little blood sweat and tears no doubt.

Re: MacWester 26 and the 'hina-ous' Crew

all the paneling is now finished,
trim is finished, and everything has at least i coat of varnish on it apart from the floors which i will do in the workshop at the same time as the locker tops.

next step is to sand off the bunks ,repaint the white surfaces and give the paneling 2 more coats of varnish..

then final fit of hinges and latches, light switches, cooker, measure up the mattress's and recut to fit, mount the gps.

a bit of paint in the cockpit and she is good to go more or less!

(photos of the fwd cabin and one of the 4 mattress' for the fwd cabin and qtr berths)

Great work, bet you are proud of the results!

Glad I didn't take on the project, I'd have scuttled her by now lol

Re: MacWester 26 and the 'hina-ous' Crew

Hi there. I am in about the same position as this boat was at the start of this thread.
A westerly 32 had lain unloved for 20 years in West Africa. except it was described as being recently a 'registered charter boat'. I realised to late that the life raft was last inspected about 20 years ago!
every job i have used local workers has resulted in more damage than repairs. that is regardless of the nationality of the contractor.
The most recent damage was done by a tugmaster the 'Ive been a tug master for 40 years' type. Not only did he insist the boat was taken into his home harbour himself, he insistyed on mooring her himself. two tides later he rammed the renown with a boat he had on tow as he enteresd the harbour at full speed!
Now I the engine -propshaft is out of line. This is near three years into what was supposed to be a three month adventure ending in Brazil.

Haven't read the whole thread, but looks like OP's missus was on the money with her 2-3 years estimate, huh?

Thumbs up to atoll for seeing it through!
