Lunar Eclipse
Tonight’s lunar eclipse (actually early morning of Dec. 21) falls on the same date as the northern winter solstice. The total eclipse lasts more than an hour from 02:41 am to 03:53 am EST on Tuesday morning, Dec. 21st.
In a Lunar Eclipse, the sun, earth and moon line up so that the so that the moon seems to disappear, due to the shadow that's cast by the earth.
And by the way, this cosmic event is also technically a Full Moon, so get ready to howl!
For other time zones, see ➥ Shadow & Substance Home Page
Or ➥ http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/OH/OHfi...2010-Fig04.pdf

We'll be getting up to watch the event. Clear skies in the Keys.

Chief I set mine up last year, I am certain it will work correctly. No need to do it again.

Does anyone else think the moon looks like someone put a big orange in the sky during a total lunar eclipse?

Of course this year's winter storms are extensive, precluding observing the universe now. But that's OK because I'm tired of the many years of drought. If this is a trend, I welcome global warming, especially since last Summer was comparatively cool.

That's poppycock. The Mayans were way off (as in wrong). Their civilization ended hundreds of years ago, well before 2012.

Great view here in the Tampa area. At 36 degrees not spending much time outside looking at it.
