The only time our boat was outside the tropics was when it was built in Newport, RI. But you might have read some articles about our adventures with hurricanes etc. in magazines.
cheers,
Nick.

Re: Laura Dekker's Circumnavigation
Het klinkt mij bekend voor ook. Gebruikt u een schroef om de batterijen tijdens het varen opladen?
Does screw mean the same as prop?

Not in English but in Dutch it's the same word yes. Propellor is in use for aircraft although I believe it was first called "air-screw".
cheers,
Nick.

Re: Laura Dekker's Circumnavigation
In English also--screw is an older term for a ship's propeller

Re: Laura Dekker's Circumnavigation
Astrid,
Did you get as early a start in sailing as Laura?

Re: Laura Dekker's Circumnavigation
@Dockhead. Perhaps not quite as early as Laura, who I believe was born during a seven year voyage her parents were on. I sailed with my father and brother quite a bit, and at 11 sailed with them from Reykjavik, Iceland to Vancouver via Panama standing my share of the watches during the voyage.

Re: Laura Dekker's Circumnavigation
Astrid,
Your hardcore. You don't need warm breezes or water. Interesting itinerary, makes me think of a nice, warm, diesel heater.

Re: Laura Dekker's Circumnavigation
Laura is over 3000 nm from Cape Town, SA, and is in the doldrums (5S to 5N) and some how enjoying 15 kt of winds, now that is a charmed life.

Re: Laura Dekker's Circumnavigation
She was on the news today but I could not hear what the story was. Something returning to New Zealand. Correct?

Re: Laura Dekker's Circumnavigation
MacG,
I'm having trouble following all the players in the 10.5 racing. I think Jessica Watson has put together a team of all under the age of 21 crew and has had a win and is now in France. Some top level sponsorship in that class, and with the extra media coverage due to it being Jessica, I can't help but wonder if a new New Zealand team might be on the drawing board as a competitive team even younger to mix it up with the Aussies. Think of the media potential, two young sailors leading a famous Aussie-Kiwi yachting battle.

Re: Laura Dekker's Circumnavigation
And to think, those two young sailors leading the yachting battles...were both once considered incompetent sailors a little more than a year ago.
