Re: Laura Dekker's Circumnavigation

Dear Deckofficer,

I followed CF all the time but did little have to account. My boat is almost finished and upgraded over the last year, will next season go to Brugues first, after that to the UK peninsula for a closer look.
Laura is a hard girl, keeping a modest way of life and to be a survivor all over. A bit like Mathilda in Luc Besson's movie "Leon".

Keep me posted.

Played by Natalie Portman.

Laura is an explorer, have you had a chance to check her blog? She bought a car and has camped from one end of NZ to the other.

Wait -- is she old enough to get married? To set off into the unknown of life, to navigate the innumerable hardships, struggles, and emotional upheavals? Where is the Dutch government to protect her?

Good point. Thought they outlawed marriage anyways.

Sounds like you know the back story. Dutch government probably wasn't invited, she didn't want to be hassled for not finishing her studies. When she last visited with Tania Aebi, Tania suggested she should finish school. She did finish her Yachtmasters and is currently doing deliveries like Tania did. At 18, before her book was released in English (it had been released in Dutch and German) her net worth was north of $500K, now at 20 with the book out in English, my guess is she is doing OK. Daniel has a factory job. Money and fame isn't her thing, freedom to do as she pleases is what she wants. She still is doing promotional tours for the book, speaking engagements, and the boat deliveries, so staying busy.

Re: Laura Dekker's Circumnavigation

With all those inside? Or does she own any boat now?
She could have keep the guppy, and tell her stories to her grandchildren something like that.

Re: Laura Dekker's Circumnavigation

I think her father bought the boat with the single intention of a circumnavigation.

Re: Laura Dekker's Circumnavigation

Haven't seen a "wing" engine on a boat this size before.

I suppose the added weight was offset by the diminutive size of the crew.

Re: Laura Dekker's Circumnavigation

I'm just stepping into the thread, so I'm behind & may be mistaken. But perhaps that's a generator? It used to be common to build in hydro generators that way, going back to like the 1970's.

Re: Laura Dekker's Circumnavigation

From the Yachtworld listing:

............"The boat has undergone many adaptations for its trip around the world, Including two propulsion engines, a strengthened and enlarged rudder and larger tanks"............
