Re: Laura Dekker's Circumnavigation

Funny, doubles is all I have the wind to play. Played doubles at Tahoe, elevation of 6500' and found out I didn't have the wind for that. 45 years of smoking will do that to ya. That is why I don't ski anymore.

Re: Laura Dekker's Circumnavigation

Appears the U S of A is recognizing Laura's accomplishments.

I'll have to order a couple of sheets of these stamps.

Re: Laura Dekker's Circumnavigation

I'm trying to find them on the USPS site and haven't had any luck yet. It was on Laura's site this morning. I'm probably jumping the gun and will have to wait for USPS to print. Since it is a 45 cent, that is our current 1st class, and if they make it one of the "forever" stamps, meaning it is good for 1st class forever, then I'll buy a lifetime's worth.

Re: Laura Dekker's Circumnavigation

noticed her boat does not have a triatic stay from the main to the mizzen. it certainly would tighten up her rig quite a bit.

The "stamp" is the work of an artist who also happens to be a fan of Ms. Dekker.

It appears that it's not a currently available USPS stamp.

The image is from www deviantart com.

People on Deviant are generally amateurs, some with a high technical level, although there are numerous professionals among them.
But I was not entirely convinced that it was a real life matter. But the idea is fun.

Re: Laura Dekker's Circumnavigation

It is possible in the US to create a customized stamp which is legal postage. There are several vendors who specialize in such:

Custom postage, Personalized photo stamps | PictureItPostage™
Zazzle Custom Stamps - Custom Postage, Design your own photo stamps online

Re: Laura Dekker's Circumnavigation

Such things are in Europe out of the question. Therefore my consideration.

Re: Laura Dekker's Circumnavigation

Astrid always has a good answer, she is the attractive female version of GordMay for the forum. lol

If that isn't a USPS offering, then I'll have to follow Astrid's link and have some created.

Re: Laura Dekker's Circumnavigation

Astrid is correct as usual, boy do I feel sheepish like a Kiwi. I saw that Laura postage stamp on her site and believed that it was an official offering from the USPS. I should learn to research before passing on information. This has happened to me twice this week. At least this time I won't have to beg a mod to remove my post.

Re: Laura Dekker's Circumnavigation

In Canada anyone can have a legal stamp as long as it’s not obscene and you want to pay the price (often used for wedding invitations), you send in the photo and they make as many sheets as you want to pay for. I thought you had to be dead to get on a US stamp.
