From Jessica's blog today.

A Bit of Everything

Thursday, March 18, 2010
Looking at the chart today I actually got a bit of a scare when I realized how close we are to being half way across the Indian Ocean. All going to plan, as of tomorrow we should be closer to Cape Leeuwin, Western Australia, than Cape Agulhas, South Africa!

I keep telling myself that there's still such a long way to go . . .

Yeeha! 3600NM to Sydney, MOL. Looks like about 30 days to the finish line. She's bound to have enough lollies to carry here the distance. :--))

No, a little bit longer than that; 2 weeks (now) to Cape Leeuwin

Five Months at Sea and a Chat With Queen Mary 2

"From Cape Leeuwin, it is expected to take a further month for Jessica to reach Sydney"

Go Jessica!

She's coming up on Amsterdam Island. So far she's been averaging about 150NM per day. From Amsterdam to Sydney is about 3600NM. That says 24 days in perfect conditions. So allow a few extra days for the head winds up the coast. Chuck in three more days just for the hell of it and I see Jesse arriving at Sydney Heads at 0632Hrs on 30th April. I might just fly over to be a part of the gathered throng.

I love it! I will have to do a plot before I give my "jessamate" of her arrival. We need a lat and long point.
Godspeed jessica, I will let you know when to cross the finish line.

I nominate dpex to organize the CF arrival time pool. Closest time without going over wins? New South Wales time? Do they have daylight savings time? When she enters the harbor or when she finishes docking the boat? Prize?

Wouldn't that be "Jesstimate?"

I believe the "official" finishing line is Sydney Heads. You'll need to keep in mind the stage-managing of the actual day and time so they can arrange functions etc. in advance, of course...

Here you have lats and longs:
21 mar ― Latest position ― 37°48S 72°52E
29 mar ― Longitude ninety ― 35°00S 90°00E (850 nm)
11 apr ― Cape Leeuwin ― 34°22S 115°08E (1250 nm)
27 apr ― SE Tasmania ― 43°42S 147°48E (1610 nm)
04 may ― Sydney ― 33°51S 151°12E (610 nm)
The distances are straight distances, and I have assumed that the remaining distance gets 100 nm less each day. Since the straight distance is 4320 nm according to my calculation this means 43 days.
