Is Their a Market for Video Security

I'm meaning for cruisers or people storing/mooring boats. Just a business idea I had as part of an offering for boat management.

Well, that was certainly cool (though I'm loathe to click on links anywhere). My son often tells his grandmother to go seek the Googler and now there's an app for it. What will they think up next

Video is just one arrow in the quiver. There are others with security ideas here too, and the market is growing. pm?

Sure there's a market. Just think nanny-cam and build from there. POV cmeras are getting cheaper and smaller all the time. Find a vendor with open architecture and go for it.

Re: Is Their a Market for Video Security

I am a licensed Texas security company and specialize in video surveillance. The variety of what is available on the market now is mind boggling and ditto the prices. I don't mind giving advice to fellow cruisers on what to buy and how to hook it up. It isn't terribly difficult but there are things to consider like specialized tools (depends on system type) and filtering the marketing b.s. from reality. And, as in many markets, your lack of knowledge can really cost you $$$ if you don't have an advocate.

If one really wanted to, he/she could have a 360* masttop camera for looking down while navigating through those pesky coral heads or underwater cams at bow, stern and to the sides... The combinations and posibilities are limited only by your imagination and, to a lesser degree, your budget.

Hmmm...I have a property in Texas I'd like to discuss with you outside the forum.

Re: Is Their a Market for Video Security

trifan, I've been considering this from a see and avoid standpoint as you described. One only needs a divided desktop to view video sources from numerous cameras. Why not use a simple POV camera to cover your blind spots? A three camera system of bow, masthead and stern should cover it but one could add port and starboard cams just to fill the complete picture. I had not considered the application to reach underwater... geez. Just when you think....
