Paul and Rachel Chandler, held captive, but currently alive and well...

Vic,
As of a few hours ago, the BBC reported that the couple (Paul and Rachel Chandler) were alive and well, being held captive on board a container ship ("Kota Wajah") about 1 mile off the Somali coast....
(this is a Singapore-flagged container ship, which appears to have also been seized by Somali pirates, and being used as a pirate "mother ship".....???)

Their boat, the Lynn Rival, was located empty and adrift (and apparently stripped of everything of value) by a British war ship.....

Here's the latest report from the BBC
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/engl ... 332163.stm

I know I'm not alone in wishing them well, and praying for their release soon....

John

The thing that is unfortunate is even if we have no money we loose everything, the boat and our families money. Whereas a container shiop only the company gets screwed.

It's unfortunate what happened to these two people, but anyone that insists on sailing in known troubled waters is plain stupid.

Hold on Jiffy.
Were you aware the Somali pirates were active around the Seychelle Islands because I sure wasn't.

Yes, John, for a while now. They are getting further south and welll east. Up to 1,000nms from the coast.

Reminds me of what my Dive Master used to say about diving the Farallones...

'People, DO NOT dress up as shark's favorite food and go swim in their dining room!'

I can see how it would be easy to think 'it won't happen to us' until it does. I hope they come thru this safely.

In cases like this will their boat be held for them somewhere? It sounded like it was found, but nothing was said about if it was recovered.

Last I read they have been taken to land, to a village, and spotted by residents.

The Navy does not pop prize crews on board anymore. They would have sunk it as a nav threat.

This from the bbc article.

The yacht, the Lynn Rival, which was found in international waters, had been secured by the Royal Navy and was being escorted to shore.

So it still double sucks but it sounds like the boat minus a bunch is floating.
