We have been away for a week and learned this afternoon that this past Sunday, 13 January, 2013 a French sailing vessel attempted to enter the river in large swells against the advice of the marina. The report is the vessel sank with the loss of one crewmember. The wreck has been marked at the mouth of the river. I have found nothing online about this but will post more if we get anymore info. Perhaps no news release while they attempt to notify the French authorities and family
. Very sad as there is an all weather
port down the coast.
We are expecting further high winds in the next two days of 45+ knots. The mouth of the river is more dangerous than it looks and the standing advice is not to enter if swells/wave are above 2.5 meters. Forecast
is for 5 meters Saturday.
