Family Rescued After Salboat Capsizes in Galveston Bay

I'm very glad to hear the family is OK, but was wondering if anyone had information on exactly what happened? I was out in the same waters as this, and am concerned as to how their vessel 'capsized'... Sails appear furled in the video - I was wondering if (200 yards from shore) perhaps they ran aground and were pummeled by waves?? I don't wish to speculate too much, but would like to hear some specifics for future safety in the same area.

I am glad they are safe, but I don't buy the tipped over thing. I bet they ran aground and the squall pushed them on the bank

The report says they were trying to beat a cold front. My guess would be they ran aground, then chopped pushed them in further.

It was a pretty bad ass cold front. The water is very shallow with tons of old piers and debris. I'm very confused on why the coast guard wasn't involved, as it would of made this situation safer. Walking/wading in that water was pretty dangerous as noted before of old piers/debris in high winds and waves. The boat looks pretty "clean" so I think she just ran aground and took on water. This report was very vague and rather silly. I could not find any other information about this incident. It seems like they were way way off course. Glad the family is well.

The boat didn't capsize. They ran it aground probably because they were incompetent navigators. As the tide went out, the boat laid over on it's side and the boat flooded probably when the tide came back in. A mud bottom can develop suction against the hull not allowing the boat to right itself until it's too late and water pours in through the companionway. They'd probably have been fine if they just put the washboards in the companionway. That is fine until they got busted for their nefarious deeds.

These thieves don't realize that sailboats are not cars that work on water. The best one I saw was the couple that was swiping cats out of the UK. They took one out in the ocean, ran out of gas, and died of exposure because they couldn't make the sails work. Some type of irony going on here...
