We attended the Tall Ships Festival at Navy Pier in Chicago yesterday and below are some photos of the Viking Longship that sailed here from Norway in the Spring. The vessel was truly a work of art and had, by far, the longest lines during the day and the most excited patrons. Hope you enjoy. Good luck and safe sailing. Rognvald

The quote reminds me of one of my top bucket list destinations: Skellig Michael ( sp?).
I was taken with the use of this location as Lukes secret refuge in the last Star Wars. Very beautiful and appropriate.

I can assure you there were no monkeys aboard those vessels . . . but, I am quite certain many of your relatives undoubtedly frolicked on the back of Hannibal's elephants or were seen tethered to the hull of an Arab Dhow. No such nonsense for us North Europeans! And, can you imagine these testosterone infused males were the first to bring short story writing to Europe in their Sagas and were the most prolific writers in Dark Age Europe? No sissys on those longships . . . they stayed at home and milked the cows. Good luck and safe sailing . . . Captain Rognvald, lost in the 21st Century. P.S. Hope everyone liked the pics!

Your great pics are much appreciated, Rognvald. You are lucky to be able to see the ship in person. I have been following the Draken from the beginning. They have done a fabulous job building and sailing this historic vessel. The latest saga was the issue of needing Great Lakes pilots on board while in US waters at a huge expense which they had niot expected. Thanks to the Sons of Norway enough money was raised to get them to Chicago and to the next stop in Green Bay. They still need help to complete the trip to Duluth. Later they will transit the Erie Canal down to New York and end up in Mystic where they will spend the winter.
