Ready to Make a Difference in the South Pacific?
With the most recent cyclones hitting the
Philippines and
Tonga, one of the greatest challenges faced by the local
health ministries and international aid organizations was their inability to deliver aid to the
remote islands affected by each natural disaster. Aid would flow into the primary islands, but there were few options available (delivery platforms) to deliver the international aid (food,
water, medicines and care) desperately needed to the outer
remote islands.
With earthquakes and tsunami's becoming an almost yearly event in the
South Pacific, there is a growing need for an effective and far reaching disaster response program that could deliver this much needed aid to "all" of the islands during these disasters. To fill that need, we developed
Sea Mercy Emergency Response Fleet (SMERF) to assist our island nation partners in their time of need.
With an established and effective
Floating Health Care Clinic (FHCC) program operating in
Tonga and
Fiji, we have developed the relationships and trust of our island nation partners, and recently put those relationships to the test with our
Emergency Response efforts following Cyclone Ian in Tonga. Below are two video's from our recent
