Re: Diana Nyad Success!

Very, very cool. After the last try I didn't think she would ever make it.

Makes me feel younger just reading about it.

Very, very impressive. There's a thin line between foolhardy and determined, and I think she swam the length of it.

Re: Diana Nyad Success!

I couldn't imagine the stresses on the body. What would have really impressed me would be if she completed the swim without 35 crew members and hundreds of thousands of dollars from sponsors. Very well done though!

She probably thinks similarly about how cruisers do that voyage, what with needing an expensive yacht and all that other gear.

A wonderful accomplishment by any athlete not withstanding being only a year from the Senior Citizen status, this woman is a wonderful role model for all of us.

Not a comparison at all. We are two crew on a boat purchased by us and a voyage funded by us.
Like i said, I'm not trying to take anything away from her accomplishment. Whether she had a crew of 2 or 200 the swim she did was amazing. But to ME, I would have appreciated it more without the sponsors and large number of paid crew. That's just me and my opinion.

Yeah, and I would have appreciated it more if she had walked on water all the way across. Lets keep it realistic here. This sort of endeavor requires that sort of infrastructure, for the vast majority of people. And it certainly resulted in more publicity and a good press op for Cuban/American relations.

It seems her team agrees. Doctors almost stopped her two miles from the finish, she was slurring her words and clearly at the end of her rope. Kept swimming though, I bet they would have had to drag her out of the water!
