Darla Jean III Reported Missing

I've made this information available on another thread http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...p-13838-2.html but it has occurred to me that a unique thread will be a better way to get the word out.

The USCG is actively seeking any information that will help them locate the Darla Jean III, a 36' steel vessel that sailed from San Francisco around the middle of June. Aboard the vessel are Jerry and Darla Merrow, and Darla's sister Kim is the party who contacted the Coast Guard, requesting assistance.

Here is a link to the story in yesterday's 'Lectronic Latitude:

Latitude 38 - The West's Premier Sailing & Marine Magazine

Anyone with information can contact the USCG at the number in the article.

Unfortunately, no one seems to know what kind of boat Darla Jean III is, nor where they were heading.
That's not a good way to start a safe voyage...

Not really a good way to start a search either. (need more details for sure).

I've just received an email from Darla's sister Kim containing the following information:

She receives the Merrows' mail, and a bank statement she just got indicates banking activity in Mexico. She has passed the information along to the CG, and asked them to drop the search.

For myself, until I saw the person I was worried about with my own eyes, I'd remain skeptical. I hope it's true that they're alive and well in Mexico, and not that some unsavory person has somehow obtained their credit cards.

Kim is asking that other cruisers still keep an eye out for them, so if anyone spots the Merrows and the Darla Jean III somewhere south of the border, I can put you in touch with Kim.
