Danish Yacht Taken by Pirates

I have very little information on this at the moment. I'll try to post more when I can get some verifiable news.

There's a report that a Danish sailing vessel was taken by pirates on Thursday last.

There are seven people on board, and several of them appear to be children.

I'll post more when I get it.

What I know is the boat is Danish flagged, it was captured Thursday, and it was somewhere near Somalia - but no coords or anything yet. Also don't know the name of the vessel.

Sorry, I didn't even have that a few moments ago. I got word from one of our counter-intelligence guys. I've got calls in to them to see if they can get me more data.

Re: Danish Yacht taken by Pirates

At least the Danish aren't threatened directly as Americans are right now. The threats from the pirates indicate they will kill any and all Americans they find from now on.

It would behoove Americans to remain out of those waters at pretty much all costs.

I'm still working with a couple of friends to get more information - but most of what we can see I can't post. sorry.

When I get open source stuff, I'll let you know.

i thought the danes did a blowing away of some somalian pirats within the past coupla years-- wouldnt that make them just as vulnerable to horrors unspeakable as the usa citizenry?? it isnt from where you come to these guys-- it is how much money and publicity they can get-- with kids in a boat from a nation which did damage to their brethren, it seems to me that the danes are in the SAME situation as is usa with these piratical scum. thankyou.
doesnt matter from what nation one sails--indian ocean is not a safe place nor has it been for decades.

Re: Danish Yacht taken by Pirates

Were anything to happen to the children I think the world's outrage would finally be enough to take serious measures. I hope the pirates understand this.

I know what I would do were I in charge of a large country with a large military, but I would rather not say so as not to stir the pot.

RickD,
While I appreciate the effort to get information out to the sailing public, do you think it's appropriate for you(or 'our counter-intel guys) to leak and then post any information on a public forum? Seems like ANY information derived from sources other than 'official' statements at this point is not very prudent. Remember, there are 7 lives on the line and us knowing what's going on right now doesn't help them one bit. Shouldn't their lives be the priority right now? The pirates have sat-phones, you don't think they have the internet? Loose lips......

He hasn't posted anything except a link to a Fox News story, despite his claims to some sort of ties to the intelligence community.

Actually... I didn't "leak" anything. Leaks are leaks when you let out classified information. I have not done such a thing. Chill out.

Here's the OFFICIAL news release as posted by Fox a few moments ago:

Pirates Reportedly Hijack Danish Boat With Three Children on Board

Published February 28, 2011
| FoxNews.com

COPENHAGEN, Denmark – Pirates reportedly have hijacked a Danish sailboat with four adults and three children on board.

The ship was hijacked Thursday while traveling through the Indian Ocean and is now on its way to Somalia, Denmark's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Charlotte Slente told DR News, a national TV News channel in Denmark.

A Danish couple, their three children and two technicians were on board the sailboat, DR News reported.

Navy Operational Command started investigating immediately after receiving a distress signal from the Danish boat, Slente said.

All relatives of those on board the boat have been informed of the events and are in close contact with the Danish authorities, Slente told the station.

"This is a very difficult situation - even to relatives. Not least because there are children involved, and therefore we are asking the Danish media about being gentle on the relatives, " she said.

For security reasons the Ministry would not supply any further details on the missing passengers, DR News reported.

Note the stuff in RED.

I suggest you not make assumptions either about me, or what I post. You can rest absolutely assured I will not, did not, and do NOT "leak" information. The folks I work with give me what I need that is within all of our legitimate scope of daily business.

I believe I've probably been doing this a lot longer than you have.

Re: Danish Yacht taken by Pirates

OK, can we PLEASE keep this thread on topic, about the actual subject, and avoid:

1) discussions on arming or not arming

2) discussions on where mistakes were made in the past (or not made)

3) anything else that would make the mods want to close the thread.

Let's just keep it to the topic at hand.

P.S. As big as CF is, it would not surprise me if certain folks in certain places might be keeping an eye on these topics...
