Funny that people think it's beating a dead hose when there's plenty on here with limited or wrong info on what can/should go on out there...

Here's a captain with lot's of experience (reportedly) yet things went wrong....

I'd love to see what a lot of others would do in the same situastion.

Dead horse??? I doubt it...it could go on for 1000 more pages and six more months and there would still be learning going. Of couse except for the know it alls WITHOUT the similar experiences ....

as every sailor and very boat is different--including boats of similar make and manufacture, the will never be an end to this discussion, especially as most continue to bash the captain for his deeds. that is ridiculous. that is not instructional nor educational nor positive in approach.
so, psneed--as you are so knowledgeable, what would YOU do in same situation, as another and much worse front was approaching.....we await your pearls of wisdom.

I already posted what I would do...READ....and the point of forums is to learn..considering all the incorrect info usually posted...keeping it alive keeps the flow of info...like until the skipper came on and said it was a delivery...it was a whole different ballgame.

I doubt this is true...
Analysis of the events leading up to, during and including the rescue are all valid subjects to study... what happened, why and what could have been done to remedy the situation...
Its how people learn... disection... and I'm sure there's quite a few folks on this forum that need to know the kind of things that can happen out there...
and hopefully learn to minimize the chance of the same or similar thing happening to them...
I have no bone to pick with Captain Thiery.. he got his people away safely when he felt the maximum had been reached... you cannot ask a man for more.
However... this is a rare opportunity to discuss a 'real life situation' and the possible outcomes/options... not just another 'What would you do if...?'
Be a shame to bin it coz a few see it as a bashing...
Be even better to hear from the horse's mouth what he would do with hindsight...
We all have something to learn... and it might just pop out here...

I'm not popping at anybody.

But I would like to learn more detail as to the water leak. Was it a hull/deck joint, a fitting that ripped, though fitting hole that separated, keel bolts leaking, rudder tube failure, sterm tube problem.............just where and what was it? I would think there's something to be learned for this.

100% not directed at the Skipper in this case.

But I am sure in our own day jobs or general life experiances we have all encountered folks with decades of experiance or with qualifications coming out of ears (or both) but who are nonetheless a complete waste of space
