Cornell rally to go via GOA, Red Sea!

Just spotted this one when jimmy Cornel is slating in a rally transit up the Red sea in early 2016

Quote:

Alternative Indian Ocean route
The safety issue in the North Indian Ocean continues to be a matter of concern. The situation will be monitored carefully, and the advice of the relevant authorities will be sought, to ensure the absolute safety of a transit by the Blue Planet Odyssey fleet through the critical area in early 2016.
Routes & Schedule - Blue Planet Odyssey - Cornell Sailing

For boats considering options for 2016, or for those stuck in Asia since 2011 this could be an interesting thought... Join the rally for that one leg, just follow it, or use it as an indication on the security situation.

Is being stuck in Asia not the better option? ;-)

In fact I am currently working for a large maritime company who have been contracted to patrol. Pirate alley they have now 8 boats in the region I am in Malta on Monday to discuss the lunch of a further 11 boats to be built and placed in service over next 18 months , things are changing and part of the reason of which can not confirm is the back log in Panama

your link is a strong warning of the Gulf of Eden {HOA}. wonder if a yacht can even be insured if moved thru there by hired crew. sounds worse than we ever hear on CNN.definitely a no-brainer decision for most sailors i would think.JMHO

Re: Cornell rally to go via GOA, Red Sea!

Yes it is still high risk but several things have changed and one is now there are fewer mother ships for the pirates this has come about by the continual naval patrols in finding and sinking these vessels and with the Australian air recognisance crews flying daily and identifying pirates this has forced the pirates back to 3 areas of Somalia , and also what has changed is the co- operation now between un/us over the nuclear disarmament program where by goods are now flowing back into Iran and those goods are vital to them after all these yrs so they have also stepped up patrols and are working closely with other patrolling nations

What I can understand ( the company I work for are involved ) is the congestion is going to get worse there And now the big push is on for the Costa Rica channel canal to commence too allow more ship movement and bigger ships to pass through
