Yep. I imagined the two parts would sink, but they are still afloat. Let's hope they will not turn turtle now.

Not outside North America. Intermodals are 20 ( TEU) and 40 foot.

Outside North America there are also 45 footers (moved my house on them three times) but they are counted at 2 TEU as if they were 40-footers. You can see the extra 5 feet highlighted with paint to make sure folks will ot try to stick them in a space of only 40 feet....

Inquiring minds want to know!
Containers aren't watertight. They float because they're full of something that floats. Like flip-flops etc. Almost all of them sink.

The only thing you can do is report them to the Marine Department / Coast Guard.

Re: Containership Breaks in Half - Update and Images

and I would guess that even where things in the containers start off as bouyant that over time most of them degrade / get water logged.....and probably sea growth helps a bit (inside and outside the container)......and then we have our old freind rust which will eventually help empty a container.

As said, they must be sinking (at least eventually) as not being recovered they would be washing up ashore or being encountered inshore a fair bit.
