I'm looking at this weekend. We'd have to go offshore a good ways. Saturday not looking so good for the test. 3 to 5' occasional 6'. 6 to 8 with occasional 10 in gulf and 7 seconds. Sunday better with 2 to 4 feet with occasional seas to 5 feet along the coast and 4 to 6 feet with occasional seas to 8 feet in the Gulf Stream. We'll be in the Riva so not sure where the best place for him to do it would be. At least he'll have help to make sure he doesn't go overboard.

Yep, Houston, we have a plan. He just doesn't know it yet.

Pee over the side, pee standing up in the head. Used buckets, bottles, cups too. When it's time to go, it's time to go.

I have come up on deck (at anchor) to see a friend's wife peeing over the side. She broke three rules in one "go", peeing over the side, no lifejacket and sitting on a lifeline (while hanging on a shroud). Must have been trained by Boatie!

I spent an entire summer on a boat with a swim platform and never once used the head. Good tidal flow is essential when anchored. Sea dumps seem far more civilized than marine toilets. Cleaner, more discrete, and no maintenance.

Split backstay makes holding on at the transom easy. I'll use the back of the boat when we don't have guests on board (and its not rough -- but it's rarely rough around here)

I always found that the stock stern rails were built just high enough (6" above my knees) to perfectly pitch you over the side, so when I refit the old SV Escape, I build a new "pushpit" that might just help keep you onboard.

Top rail at belly-button height. Lower rail height as required to provide a "no splash" trajectory during hands free operation of my personal bilge pump. (Height of lower rail will vary according to mounting height of personal bilge pump)

Don't know about that being "better". Maybe it's just that catamaran sailors have longer hoses.

but to be fair, I have long admitted that monohulls do make much better anchors than catamarans. All that lead weight added to the keels makes them set quicker in a silty bottom.
