None of the political figures involved are going to have much sympathy for your position at this point and will no doubt circle the wagons themselves.
yup. your original letter made accusations that you can't back up. For all you know, one of those officers who asked the boater to move is the brother-in-law of Karlton, and the Chief nor the Mayor had anything whatsoever to do with the issue.

You don't open a letter with "I know you are corrupt and do political favors" and then say "and could you please look into this?"

At this point you may not be getting much visible support from the Mayor or the police chief, so make sure the press is kept up to date on all developments. They're the last hope for forcing any sort of change.

Also, you could enlist the help of the very large powerboater community in Miami. All those guys with the big go-fast boats who love to go about a mile and then drop anchor for the weekend. Now, they're possibly not as well-mannered and quiet as the cruising sailboat crowd (and they may well be the origin of Mr Karlton's antipathy to anchored boats!), but they certainly have a vested interest in keeping good anchorages open.

I've advised the mayor, City Attorney with a request that cooler heads prevail and also copied the media on the entire issue, including the Chief's response.
The next move is theirs.

Oh, I read it on the internet and I just know it's true,
Some fellow in Miami, he called the boys in blue,
He's awfully well connected to the office of the mayor,
So never drop an anchor or you'll rouse a grisly bear,
Yes, it's posted on a website, in an ever longer thread,
By people spitting venom all wound up and seeing red,
Let's name some names and call them out, nothing else will do,
For I read it on the internet and I just know it's true.

I've done battle with "city hall," a hospital, school system, and a police department.
I lost them all, but was very content with the casualties they caused.
Keep moving forward and don't worry about insulting anyone.

Has anyone actually tried to contact and talk to this guy to hear why he is being obnoxious? Unless people are completely unhinged, more is usually accomplished by talking than by a pissing contest.

If our poet would read the entire thread, he'd see that there are lots of names here - the mayor's, Chief of Police, mine, the homeowner. Must be easier writing poetry in an AA-BB rhyme than learning about what's going on.
And I've emailed Karlton, no response. It's what I expected.

Mr. Poetry is probably a friend of Mr. Karlton, as you will note, he states his "location" as Washington D.C; which any true American will tell you is "corruption central".

I suggest you just let it go. My god, this is a huge reaction for what really amounted to very little provocation. Your points made and these guys have bigger problems then to listen to the continuous complaint.

Venom is easy and spite is a breeze,
So just keep both items at home, if you please,
For dullards can hurl invective around
Like yapping and flea bitten currs in a pound,
Strike out and snap and you are all set,
It's all truth you see, on the internet.

Re: Bullying on the Waterway ( Sunset Lake , Miami )

It would be great to let it go, but this is easily one of the best anchorages in Miami Beach. Good holding, no current, quiet - except for Karlton.
Many cruisers fought long and hard for the right to anchor without being hassled in Florida.
If we don't defend our right to anchor here, who's to say that we won't find more and more areas being placed off limits?

Alass, poor Canuck, someone's got up your nose,
He grates on your nerves from your ears to your toes,
Your hair stands on end, as you fume for your rights,
"It's here that I'll anchor and I'll anchor all night!"
So just take a breath and please don't turn blue,
What we read on the internet all has to be true.

I can't speak for the USCG in general but contrary to doug's experience I did once flag down a USCG launch during a 4th of July fest. Some nimrods anchored on our anchor and we were on private bottomland with permission to be there. I pointed out that the idiots were trespassing AND operating a vessel in a reckless manner by endangering both of us.

When you give them simple ammunition like that the USCG are happy to assist. If they fail to act on a reckless endangerment matter...that's going to have repercussions.
