Breaking News -- Flying Hawaiian Goes to Sea!

I never thought we would see the day . . . :

Latitude 38 - 'Lectronic Latitude

65- by 32-foot catamaran 3200sqft of living space - Page 113 - Sailing Anarchy - Sailing Anarchy Forums

Apparently lost a rudder when only two miles out of the Golden Gate.

Did he throw out an anker?

Oh, and don't mean to be a spelling Nazi, but I think the correct term is 'rutter'.

I hope they have a REALLY good life raft, but my guess is that it is no more than a 29 dollar pool toy.

Every pool needs skimming, including the gene pool.

I can't believe it! And we lost him! Nobody knows where he is. The suspense is killing me.

Probably got towed up to the delta under cover of darkness.

The Flushing Hawaiian is apparently equipped with a high-tech cloaking device.

Look at the shape. It's obviously been designed with stealth technology top of mind. You'd never make a boat like that for aesthetic reasons!!

Worse,

"illegal liveaboard on unnavigable vessel "?

and now gone as in "gone cruising".

Some attitude in "Belvedere"? about the Flyin' Hawaiian.

Good story OP thanks.

Let us pray it is not the same stealth technique used by submarines.....for Ms.Hotrods sake...

Re: Breaking News -- Flying Hawaiian Goes to Sea!

Ya know, I don't think too much of the FH, and Hot Rod could be a bit offputting in person... but so far the naysayers have said (loudly and with accompaniment):

He would never finish building it.
It would collapse when he tried to lift it onto a launch cradle.
The home made launch cradle would never reach the water.
The boat would fall apart when launched.
It would immediately sink.
It would soon become saturated and sink.
It would break apart in the first winter storm and sink.
It would be gobbled up by the Raccoon debris collector ship.
It would be towed away by the authorities and sent to the tip.
It would never leave Richardson's Bay.
It would never get under the GG bridge.

So far, each of these predictions has been wrong.

As I said, I don't think much of the vessel and suspect that it will come to grief if really at sea, but by golly, Hot Rod has thumbed his nose at all his critics so far (and dentally removed a finger from one if stories are to be believed!), and who knows... he might fool us all yet again!

I doubt it, but wish him well in his venture (even though the boat is Fugly and he is cantankerous).

Jim

As a matter of fact, I met one of the nay-sayers in Mexico. He and his wife were splitting up and selling the boat. The irony is Hot Rod outlasted him!
