Boaters Rescued by Cruise Ship Off Cuba

I am in complete agreement with OZskipper... What I am confused about and possibly have been mislead by my mentors on is this. Why were the engine hoses and a few thru hull hoses NOT cut? I was always told to make sure the ship goes down to the bottom if the need arises to abandon. Especially in this case in which they were easily side tied to a cruise ship.

I don't know about yall, but does anyone want to be crossing over to Isla and run into this tub in the middle of the night doing 7 knots?

I'll be the mean hearted cynic. I read the owner is a writer, and is writing or just finished a book about a boater who is rescued at sea by a cruise ship when he runs into trouble. IF that is so maybe a big PR stunt? Head out on the water along the cruise ships routes see one coming hail it and be "rescued" it looked to me the dinghy was still with them. Lose a a trawler (Insured?) but get a million in free publicity! Remember "Baloon Boy"

Probably a longshot steve. If there was a storm and he had crew and a wife waiting for him he had too many variables for that to be a possibility... I think it's what it appears to be. A case of misfortune.

Agreed. We fouled our prop once in rough weather, and I dove in to cut it off with a knife. Not easy to do. Towboat showed up for another issue and let me borrow his hook knife. That sold me.

first question is what were they doing out there in the 1st place - we are sitting charlotte harbor looking for wx window to mexico and saw this small window and decided we could not make mexico before the front came thru - they got the front and the seas we did not want to take
second was towing a dingy and most said it better than i can - just dumb
